Carparks
Recently
Manukau City Council took an innovative step when they specified
the new car park lighting for the City Councils Civic Centre.
They pointed out that enhancing the safety of people and the
security of property was a key issue for the Council.
While the existing car park was illuminated with 4 x 400w floodlights
per column achieving an average of 10 lux, the City Council decided
to have a higher level of illumination and at the same time improve
the aesthetics of the existing installation.(top right)

luminaires with a light grey paint finish (right) were specified
and installed. To reduce column maintenance costs these luminaires
were mounted on galvanised columns.
Not only was fixing of the luminaire to the column simple
with the luminaire sleeve slipping over the column spigot, but
time-consuming aiming of the luminaires was eliminated due to
reflector orientation, states Dick French of the French
Electrical Company.
The car park now has an average illumination of 40 lux with no
upward light contributing to light pollution and sky glow.
This installation demonstrates that performance, glare control
and architectural compatibility can be accomplished in a single
luminaire design. |
