The past
few years have seen the introduction of many new lighting products
which in turn has increased the number of design techniques available
to lighting designers.
To avoid
a cave like effect and display merchandise effectively it is
important to have good vertical illumination Other issues to
consider are colour rendering, colour temperature, energy efficiency
and maintenance costs.
Colour
Rendering (Ra) is the ability of a light source to render colours
accurately, and is measured on a scale with 100 the best. Some
fluorescent lamps still in use only have an Ra of 65. Ideally,
for retail lighting the Ra should be at least 85.
Colour
temperature is the colour impression of the light itself and
can range from a warm light source with a low colour temperature
to a cool light with a high colour temperature. For example,
incandescent light is approx 2700 deg Kelvin and daylight is
5000 deg Kelvin and above. |
